Brief instructions:

'Text output' only function with exact (non-partial) searches.

'Partial match' will return all groups containing the search string as a substring. This can be complemented in the following ways:

• * matches anything. Eg., bin*s matches binaries and binaires
• ? matches exactly one character. Eg., c?nf?g matches config and canfog.
• ^ matches the beginning of the group name. Searching for alt.config will return no.alt.config as a match, but searching for ^alt.config will only return groups starting with alt.config.
• $ matches only the end of the group name. To find all binary discussion groups, use alt.binaries*.d$
• Most other regular expression operators work. . does not--use ?. + and * do not work as you expect in regexps, either.

Do not search for *groupname*. The outer asterisks are implied.

The sorting order only applied in partial match mode.

Keep in mind that the fancier the expression, the longer the search will take.
